Monthly Play Readings

Read on for details of the latest monthly play-reading of new writing.

Starting February 2026, EGTG will be meeting for a monthly reading of new playscripts. Last month we enjoyed a lively reading and discussion of Noodle by Simon Barker, a quirky cautionary tale about the dangers of dating apps!

Next up, we will be reading Maschula by David McNeill, a lively, heart-warming slice of Scottish history inspired by a local upbringing. We hope you’ll join us for this casual table read – or just listen! – of brand new works, all washed down with a cuppa and a biscuit or two.

Maschula by David McNeill

New play Macushla is a lively, heart-warming slice of Scottish history, heavily inspired by writer David McNeill’s background. David grew up in a small mining community, Tranent and went to secondary school in Leith. The first half of the play is set in a secondary school in Leith. Working class boy Davie is sometimes out of his depth amidst a colourful collection of terrifying teachers and raucous pupils. But by the end of the second act, all Davie’s dreams have come true.
