Read on for details of the latest monthly play-reading of new writing.
Starting February 2026, EGTG will be meeting for a monthly reading of new playscripts. Previous plays include Noodle by Simon Barker, and Maschula by David McNeill.
Next up, we will be reading Dead Souls by Nokolai Gogol, Adapted by Dan Rebellato, the play was written for BBC Radio 4’s Classic Serial programme and was first broadcast in 2006. The radio play starred Mark Heap as Chichikov and Michael Palin as the Narrator. Where the second book of Gogol’s novel is incomplete, Rebellato has embellished and restructured the story to create a two part drama that emphasises the picaresque nature of the tale.
Join us for this casual table read – or just listen! – of this brand new work, all washed down with a cuppa and a biscuit or two. The script will be available to download here, password protected with “poshlost“.
