Party preparations are underway for Cougar Glass’ twelfth 19th birthday. Everything is meticulously planned; there’s a very exclusive guest list, a delicious cake…and a very sharp knife.
We kick off our platinum season with Philip Ridley’s provocative 1992 drama, The Fastest Clock in the Universe, 19:30 Tuesday 21 to Saturday 25 May at Assembly Roxy.
An in-yer-face black comedy, ‘The Fastest Clock’ was Ridley’s second stage play and the second instalment in his unofficial East End Gothic Trilogy. The multi-award-winning play caused a sensation when it premiered at Hampstead Theatre in 1992. A drama about ageing, love and delusion, the story takes place in an old, avian antique-filled room above a factory.
EGTG’s production will be directed by Abbye Eva, whose previous production, Pool (no water), was shortlisted for the Scottish Theatre Awards at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019. Looking ahead to this upcoming production, Director Abbye Eva said: “The characters in this play are a glorious group of complex knots to unpick in a rehearsal room and I’m very lucky to work with such a curious and talented cast and crew. The subject matter is dark but the writing is beautiful, witty and incredibly engaging. I can’t wait to share this with an audience!“

★★★★☆ Febrile
“This is a fascinating production, tense and febrile, which shows that in their 70th, platinum, year The Edinburgh Graduate Theatre Group are not fading away but growing old most disgracefully.”
Thom Dibdin for All Edinburgh Theatre
★★★★☆
“The Grads relish the opportunity to ensure they stay well away from the grown-up look with excellent performances all around, with the brass nerve to carry it all off.”
Dominic Corr for Corr Blimey
